A number of decisions still have to be made in the last two rounds of the Eredivisie. An overview of what is still at stake in the final phase of the season.

FC Twente and AZ are competing for CL football

The battle for victory lies behind champion PSV and number two Feyenoord third place and therefore a ticket for the third qualifying round of the Champions League is still open. FC Twente has it in hand, but the Enschede team lost 2-1 last weekend AZ and saw the competitor from Alkmaar approaching within two points.

FC Twente’s program seems slightly more favorable than that of AZ. The team of coach Joseph Oosting still plays at home against the relegated FC Volendam and away against the already finished PEC Zwolle. AZ meets Go Ahead Eagles (away) and FC Utrecht (home). The number four goes to the group stage of the Europa League.

NEC and FC Utrecht are chasing Ajax

Ajax still has to work hard to get the fifth place and thus avoid the play-offs, which go between numbers six to nine. The Amsterdam team has a two-point lead NEC and three up FC Utrecht. Fifth place is good for participation in the second qualifying round of the Europa League.

Ajax will still compete against Almere City (home) and Vitesse (away). NEC plays at home against Feyenoord and away against Almere City. FC Utrecht ends the season with matches against Sparta Rotterdam (home) and therefore AZ (away).

Go Ahead and Sparta are almost certain of play-offs

The play-off tickets for the battle for European football are basically divided, all are number eight Go Ahead Eagles and number nine Sparta Rotterdam Not officially sure yet. They can only miss the play-offs in an absurd scenario.

Number ten sc Heerenveen concedes six points to both Go Ahead and Sparta and has a much lower goal difference than both clubs. Sparta and Heerenveen will meet each other in the final round at Het Kasteel. The eventual play-off winner will play in the second qualifying round of the Conference League.

Excelsior, RKC and Heracles want to avoid the play-offs

Corpses at the bottom Excelsior and RKC Waalwijk to decide who sixteenth and therefore has to go into the play-offs, even if it has to be done Heracles Almelo still looking forward. For the out-of-form Almelo team, the doomsday scenario from 2022 still looms, when they thought they were safe, but were still relegated.

Sixteenth place is currently in the hands of Excelsior. Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen’s team can make an important move on Sunday, when Heracles will visit Rotterdam. Heracles is six points ahead of Excelsior.

Exciting battle for top scorer title

The top scorer title seems to be falling into the hands of this season Vangelis Pavlidis or Luuk de Jong. The AZ striker is one goal ahead of his competitor from PSV: 28 to 27. Feyenoorder Santiago Gimenez follows with 23 goals.

As mentioned, Pavlidis still has matches with Go Ahead and FC Utrecht to score. De Jong still plays with PSV against Fortuna Sittard and RKC Waalwijk. Feyenoord will still face NEC and Excelsior, although it is uncertain whether Giménez can participate against NEC.
