April 1st jokes often require some preparation. So mentioning it earlier means little, especially if it was just as vague.

How do you imagine it? An Apple employee places each box on the plate every few weeks to have the iPhone updated? A customer chooses an iPhone box and an Apple employee walks to the back and returns fifteen minutes later with an updated iPhone? A customer chooses an iPhone, the Apple employee takes a sealed iPhone from the warehouse and together with the customer they stare at a sealed box that will be updated in a few minutes without you seeing anything? Or in all situations mentioned: the update goes wrong and a hard reset is required. The employee returns the sealed boxes to the factory? Comes out of the warehouse after 10 minutes and apologizes that it will take a little longer? Or suggest to the customer that they open the box in the store to see what the result is and otherwise they can get another new one?

I expect Apple to demonstrate the update, the seal has to be opened to show proof and the image says: April 1, Apple delivers a safe product and updating is so easy and important, so the customer consciously does it himself.
