Now available to watch: first short films made with OpenAI’s Sora

--

OpenAI has asked filmmakers to test its generative artificial intelligence for video creation.

For filmmakers, the introduction of Sora was a shock. The generative artificial intelligence for video can create an entire video via a simple prompt.

Now maker OpenAI has deployed filmmakers to further exhibit the technology. For example, Toronto-based studio Shy Kids has made the short film Air Head about the life of a man with a yellow balloon for a head.

Not all results are so coherent. Artist Paul Trillo seems to have exhausted all possibilities for his chaotic video. On the OpenAI website, Trillo says that this is the first time Sora has felt unleashed as a filmmaker. “I am not limited by time, money, or permission from others.”

Worried about Sora

More videos can be seen on this website. All quotes from the chosen filmmakers are positive, but in practice people in the film industry are also concerned. Last year, the development of artificial intelligence was part of the strikes by actors and writers. Filmmaker Tyler Perry has put an expansion of his film studio on hold after seeing the first images of Sora.
