Affordable smartphones with good cameras in 2024

When you think of smartphones with good cameras, you quickly think of real flagships, which sometimes cost 1,000 euros or even more. However, you can also take excellent snapshots with a smaller budget. We list three devices that (currently) less than 400 euros cost and will definitely satisfy your inner photographer.

Google Pixel 7a

The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are among the absolute top, but their cheaper brother also scores very well. In fact, the Google Pixel 7a regularly wins camera comparisons, even when (much) more expensive competitors participate.

The hardware itself is not very special. You have a 64 megapixel main camera and a 13 megapixel wide-angle lens. The latter in particular is quite old and uses a very small sensor.

Yet Google manages to produce beautiful photos from these cameras thanks to its great software. They look realistic, have a nice contrast and contain a lot of detail even in the dark. The only disadvantage is that you do not have a telephoto lens to zoom in with.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Samsung offers quite a few smartphones in the price range up to 400 euros. We can now also count the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE among these. It has dropped considerably in price. Good news, because unlike the Galaxy A54, for example, this slightly older device has a telephoto lens on board with which you can zoom in 3x. Despite the low resolution of 8 megapixels, this gives it an edge over the other phones in this article.

You also have a 12 megapixel main camera and 12 megapixel wide-angle lens. A complete set that you can use in all circumstances. The Snapdragon 888 is still a fast chip and thanks to Samsung’s excellent software policy you will be fine in terms of updates for the time being. The Galaxy S21 FE will be updated at least up to Android 15 and can expect security patches until the end of 2026.

OnePlus Nord 3

The OnePlus Nord 3 is mainly in this list because of its 50 megapixel main camera. It is fine and can compete with smartphones that are twice as expensive. OnePlus has also updated the wide-angle lens. It has a slightly narrower angle than on the OnePlus 2T, but therefore also shows less distortion. Unfortunately, the resolution is still quite low at 8 megapixels. You can completely forget about the 2 megapixel macro lens.

Furthermore, thanks to its MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chip, the Nord 3 is a fast device that you can use for years to come. It also charges quickly at 80 watts. It is very large due to the 6.74-inch OLED screen.
