Apple would like to distinguish the next iPad Pro further than just an OLED screen. The tablets would now be the first to come with the latest generation M chip, the M4.

The M3 chip was only unveiled last October, and variants are now in the iMac, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. The iPad Pro is still running on the M2 2022 and is due for an update. That could well mean an immediate jump to the M4 chip for the Pro, writes the usually well-informed Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

Striking, because normally iPads are not at the forefront of the latest M chips, which usually come first in Macs. Usually iPads are not available until six months later, but now the iPad Pro would be the first. Apple would like to make the iPad Pro its first ‘truly AI-powered device’.

Advance on WWDC?

By already emphasizing AI, Apple is making an advance on its WWDC developer conference in June. Then the new versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS and watchOS will be revealed. The common denominator would be AI. Apple secretly has quite a bit of artificial intelligence in its system in terms of image editing and photography, but in the field of chatbots, for example, it lags noticeably behind competitors such as Microsoft and Google.

The idea would be to now tell the hardware side of the story with the M4. Then at WWDC the way is clear to talk about all AI functions, because it is already known on which hardware they will run. The new iPads will be unveiled on Tuesday, May 7: the invitation was already sent last week and Bright will be there.
