Even though we don’t know the details, this sounds like good news. Remedy has always had an emphasis on single-player, story and mystery. That is where their specialism and experience lie. A Live Service title for that team didn’t seem like a very logical move to me.

Fans of Live Service and multiplayer will often not be die-hard fans of the Control universe (in which Alan Wake and Control take place). That group also usually quickly returns to their favorite game such as Warzone or Fortnight, partly because of the existing community and already obtained cosmetics and progress as well as simply preference. Conversely, fans of the Remedy games would rather see a single-player title with an ending instead of an endless hamster wheel for microtransactions.

I’m hoping for new single-player games in this multi-franchise (Alan Wake/Control/Max Payne), and this news frees up space to make those titles as good as they can be.

Edit: Minor correction – the now canceled title was not affiliated with the Control universe. That’s another game, working title Condor, that will probably continue to be developed.
