The Defender (yes, now officially without a Land Rover in front of it) gets a series of novelties that should make it more attractive. Thanks to a new plug-in hybrid version, prices now start at €87,543.

Believe it or not, it has been more than 4.5 years since Land Rover presented the completely redesigned Defender. We now simply talk about ‘the Defender’ and we can omit the Land Rover part. Furthermore, everything largely remains the same, although the Defender has gone back to the drawing board for some upgrades, both exterior innovations and novelties for the interior.

To start with, there is now the Captain Chairs Pack for the longest Defender, the 130. If you check this, you will get two luxurious separate seats with their own armrests in the second row of seats. There are also two cup holders for the passengers on those seats, on the rear part of the center console. So you can sit comfortably there, but you also have more space to go to the rear row of seats. After all, the Defender 130 has three.

Furthermore, there is now a Signature Interior Pack for the entire Defender range (90, 110 and 130), which is standard on the X and V8 series and is also available for the X-Dynamic HSE. This entails fourteen-way electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats. In the 110 and 130, the seats in the second row can also be heated and cooled, while the third row only has seat heating. There is a choice of various materials for the seat upholstery, such as Windsor leather and Kvadrat textile.

Sit comfortably.

On a technical level, the arrival of a new plug-in hybrid powertrain is important news; the P300e Electric Hybrid. A 2.0 four-cylinder engine, together with an electric motor, generates 300 hp system power and 625 Nm of torque. Fully electric driving is possible up to 50 km and you can charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent in half an hour using a fast charger. The maximum towing weight is 3,000 kilos. With that powertrain, the starting price of the Defender is €87,543. Also new is the 425 hp P425 with V8. From now on, the Defender is available as S, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE, X and therefore also as a V8. For the connoisseurs there are the 110 Sedona Edition (first photos) and the 130 Outbound Edition.
