In Elst, Gelderland, a fire raged last night in parked cars in the same street. The heat of the flames also shattered the glass in windows and front doors of seven houses, writes Omroep Gelderland.
Residents were startled awake around 3 a.m. “My parents sleep on the street side so they were the first to wake up. It was incredibly hot and parts were flying in all directions,” says Elma Skeho, owner of one of the damaged cars.
“My father wanted to save my car, so he ran through the street. All the neighbors were in panic, it was impossible,” she says to Omroep Gelderland:
Neighborhood shocked by car fires in Elst
Three cars were completely destroyed. Several other parked vehicles were damaged.
Because the fire raged on both sides of the street at the same time, the police assume it was arson. The police are still looking for witnesses and camera images.
