It is already the fourteenth time that KRO-NCRV has made a musical show about the Easter story. According to Peter Kuiperschairman of KRO-NCRV, this is more topical than ever:
‘In these times of war and polarization, the Easter story we tell in The Passion seems increasingly urgent.’
‘The message of Jesus is timeless: treat others as you would like to be treated, have trust and exclude no one. This is a message for everyone in our country and we want to pass it on to younger generations.’
KRO-NCRV works for The Passion together with the Protestant Church in the NetherlandsIt Bartiméus Fund (support fund for people who are visually impaired or blind) and Opportunity Fund (support fund for people without a home). For the first time, The Passion will also be a total experience for people who are visually impaired or blind, thanks to the live audio description of the blind interpreter and former actor and magician. Hilbert Geerling.
That makes The Passion an inclusive event, according to the aldermen Laura Hoogstraten and Walter van Dijk from the municipality of Zeist:
‘You will find different beliefs, diversity and cultures here. The Passion offers options to connect these together. Together with residents and social partners, such as Bartiméus, we want to make it a great edition. That’s what we believe in!’
