The Mertens family has been looking for it for nine days: their white Nissan Evalia. The car is probably parked somewhere south of Utrecht, possibly near the A12. But father no longer knows exactly where.

On Thursday, April 18, Evan Mertens’ father left Den Bosch in the morning for an appointment in the center of Utrecht. Evan: “I believe in the Cyclists’ Union. You don’t want to arrive there by car.”

His father often does it when he has an appointment in the city: park somewhere for free near Utrecht and then take the two-wheeler out of the van and cycle the last part. “That is to avoid the high parking costs, but also because he likes cycling. He is seventy years old and unfortunately his short-term memory is deteriorating. Afterwards he could no longer find the car.”

Position of the sun

An additional problem is that his father is very concerned about his privacy and has many tools and apps turned off. “I can only see on his phone that he was still in Den Bosch at 8:15 am and arrived in the center of Utrecht at 10:15 am. Unfortunately, the SIM card for the navigation in the car is not connected to the Nissan app and, as he himself says, he drove from the parking spot to Utrecht based on the position of the sun. That doesn’t get us any further.”

His father also said that he saw that he had cycled seven kilometers from the parking spot. “But we now have doubts about everything. He also said that he parked the car in a small parking space in a green area, possibly near a canal. But we don’t know for sure whether it is true.”

Boas also join the search

It has now been nine days since the car has been lost. Evan posted a call on Facebook. “We have received quite a few tips and the carpool places in the area have been checked. The municipality of Utrecht has also informed its boas. But the car has not been found yet.”

Anyone who sees the white Nissan Evalia with the license plate S-367-VK, or has a tip, is asked to contact Evan via Facebook.
