Tbs for stabbing incident at Hema in Wormer

--
WORMER – The North Holland court imposes a TBS order on a 21-year-old woman for attempted murder. In August 2023, she stabbed an employee of Hema in Wormer several times with a knife. The employee was seriously injured as a result. The woman must also pay the victim compensation of more than 67,000 euros.

The stabbing incident

On the afternoon of August 3, 2023, the suspect was in the Hema in Wormer, while she was banned from shopping. After the police escorted her out, she returned. The store employee tried to stop her, after which a struggle took place between them. The suspect then grabbed a chef’s knife from a store shelf, unpacked it and approached the victim. She stabbed the victim repeatedly and with force.
The police pulled the suspect away from the victim. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to her face, neck, back and arm and a partial spinal cord injury.

Judgment of the court

The court considers attempted murder proven. The suspect acted with premeditation. After the first struggle, she had only one goal in mind, namely to kill the victim. She caused the victim serious and life-threatening injuries. It is thanks to the life-saving actions of the police officers who quickly arrived on the scene that the victim made it out alive. The claim for compensation and the victim statement show that the victim not only suffered serious physical complaints from the stabbing, but that there was also psychological injury, which manifested itself in re-experiencing and feelings of fear.
The incident must also have been a terrifying experience for the victim’s colleagues and customers who witnessed the stabbing.

The court follows the experts’ conclusion that the suspect is not accountable due to medical disorders and imposes a TBS measure on the suspect. The suspect must also pay compensation to the victim, namely 40,000 euros in non-material damage and more than 27,000 euros in material damage.
