Traces of the H5N1 bird flu virus have been found in pasteurized cow’s milk in the United States. The American authorities report this. They add that the samples are unlikely to pose a risk to human health.

“During an extensive national investigation, virus particles were discovered in milk from affected animals, in the processing system and on shelves,” the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in a press release. He adds that pasteurization normally eliminates pathogens to a level that does not pose a health risk to consumers.

For the time being, there is no evidence that the H5N1 virus is transmitted from person to person. However, because it circulates heavily among animals, experts fear the virus could mutate. People have already become infected through contact with infected animals.

The authorities are now conducting additional research on the samples. Bird flu has already been found in raw milk. The health authorities have been advising against consuming it for some time now.
