The first episode of The Piano started off hopefully with more than 800,000 viewers, but then that number decreased rapidly, reaching the absolute low point this week. “Innovation and taking risks are part of our strategy,” says RTL. “Because of our enthusiasm about the format and the good performance at Channel 4 (commercial channel), we dared to do it. We are proud of the program, the candidates and the makers and find it incredibly unfortunate that it did not catch on.” RTL also announced that The Piano is nevertheless not moved or replaced early. The show will be broadcast again next week.

Viewer comments

Actually, that was already clear after the first broadcast The Piano wouldn’t catch on. The comments from the viewers were clear. The main complaint was the lack of spontaneity. The pianists in the broadcast were not found by chance, but invited by RTL. So they know there is a camera running. And that wasn’t the only complaint. Nowadays you can no longer attend a talent show without a sad life story and that is also the case The Piano the case. This ‘rule’ gets on the nerves of many people.

Experts Roel van Velzen, Dominic Seldis and Daria van den Bercken watch the pianists in the show and reward the best with a performance in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
