Mariëlle and Michiel from Wijchen love their own lush backyard full of carefully home-grown subtropical plants and trees. It is therefore logical that they prefer to spend their holidays in their own garden. However, the couple sees that holiday feeling go up in smoke, because their neighbors Els and Hans like to turn on their rusty garden fireplace. Or as Mariëlle and Michiel call it ‘the damn stove’. Reason for plenty of fireworks in a new episode of ‘Mr. Frank Visser Makes a Statement’.

“Sometimes I throw a little too much wood at it”

Mariëlle and Michiel proudly show their tropical garden. So they cannot enjoy their garden because of the frequent heating at the neighbors’ homes. “Everything here is covered in blue smoke. The only thing we can do is run inside. Because of the stench,” Mariëlle explains. The music that the neighbors play loudly is also a major nuisance for the couple. The neighbor also allegedly spit on Mariëlle and Michiel’s car. To make matters worse, death threats were also reportedly sent.

“The neighbors must stop this behavior,” Mariëlle says resolutely. She wants a restraining order imposed on the neighbors. “And stop that heater, stop that taunting.”

Els and Hans think in their neighborhood that Mariëlle and Michiel are ‘two idiots’. “They’re whining about nothing,” Els sneers. According to Hans, heating the stove is also not too bad, because they only light it two or three times a year. “Sometimes I throw a little too much wood at it,” she says. “Then it starts smoking.”

Mariëlle then reveals that her neighbors say that she psychologically abuses their children. And that works like a red rag to a bull. “They called VeiligThuis,” she says. It makes Mariëlle furious. However, Hans says he is sure that all is not well at Mariëlle and Michiel’s home. “I have also been psychologically abused. I recognize things,” he says firmly. Els and Hans counterclaim that they can continue to use their stove. “And that we are left alone,” they say.

Mr. Frank Visser is not present this time to resolve the dispute between neighbors, but his substitute Bart Beuving does so. Whichever way we look at it, emotions run high between both couples during the hearing. The accusations fly back and forth.

Ultimately it is also Mr. Beuving that makes a statement. He rules that Els and Hans are only allowed to burn ten times a year and are not allowed to play music outside after 10 p.m. The neighbors will also be issued a contact ban. They are no longer allowed to talk to each other or post about each other on social media. “From today on you are air for each other,” says Mr. Beuving.

A new episode of Mr. You can see Frank Visser Doet Uitspraak every Monday evening at 8:30 PM on SBS6. Missed an episode? You can look back here.
