Early HBO Max subscribers in the Netherlands can breathe a sigh of relief. The streaming service has announced that the lifetime discount will continue, even after the launch of the ‘new’ HBO Max.
When Warner Bros. and Discovery merged, a striking announcement came not long after. The Discovery+ offering was added to HBO Max, which also resulted in a name change to Max. Not really the most famous part of ‘HBO Max’.
What about the lifetime discount?
It was already clear that there would be an updated version. But that announcement immediately caused great fear among subscribers. It seemed like a perfect excuse for HBO Max to get rid of the ‘lifetime discount’. Subscribers who take out a subscription in the first few weeks after launch will receive a 50 percent discount forever, unless they decide to cancel their subscription.
Fortunately, Warner Bros. Discovery decided not to pursue that option. The company announced in an email to customers that the lifetime discount will be maintained. However, a price increase will be implemented, after which half the price will be taken away.
“After launch you will continue to pay the reduced price of 3.99 euros per month. On your next renewal date, we will continue to apply your lifetime discount of 50 percent to the then applicable monthly price of the new Standard subscription (currently 9.99 euros per month) as long as you keep your subscription and you comply with the terms and conditions of the promotion.”

HBO Max’s Standard subscription only comes with a downgrade. Not all titles can be viewed in 4K anymore. According to the streaming service, everything will be available in 1080p. The new Premium subscription will offer everything in 4K, but costs 13.99 euros per month. If you switch to Premium, you will lose your lifetime discount.
