Scammers Arrested – viewers surprised by Kees van der Spek’s approach

Marian lives in the Algarve in southern Portugal B&B Full of Love, who lost almost a hundred thousand euros to a con artist who also tried to kill her. In the TV program Scammers tackled by Kees van der Spek, viewers yesterday saw how she stood face to face with the scammer.

Marian Flooren can now call herself a celebrity. We know her from the famous TV program B&B Full of Love. Marian has a real estate agency in Portugal and owns a villa. After the TV program it became known that she had been scammed and threatened with death by one Mariana, her employee. “I saw Mariana as my daughter. I trusted that girl. Until I thought: something is wrong. I didn’t get the bank statements back.”

Marian receives a tip from an employee that many petrol coupons were missing. Mariana promises to repay the amount of 80,000 euros. She confirms the theft via WhatsApp. But why did this beloved employee steal so much money? Then Mariana comes up with her boyfriend Fabio, who would kill her parents if she doesn’t pay. Marian feels sorry for her and offers her shelter.

Because she still has doubts, Marian confides in her maid Dija. She knows Fabio, and has proof in the form of WhatsApp conversations. This shows that the story is very different: Mariana wants to have Marian murdered by Fabio, because of her money. Marian is terrified and goes to the Portuguese police. Then she investigates herself and sees that enormous amounts of money have been embezzled. “Huge amounts, five hundred euros of shopping there, a thousand euros there.”

It is time to speak to the worker herself, says Kees van der Spek. He asks Dija questions via Google Translate. Whether Mariana is a dangerous woman? “Yes.” The maid shows evidence, screenshots of conversations between Mariana and Fabio. It states in black and white that Mariana asks Fabio to kill Marian, which he does not want.

Mariana planned to rob the safe anyway. The police barely did anything with it, but ‘that’s how it goes in Portugal’. Marian, the victim, knows that Mariana is with her old friend. She never saw her again. She does want her former employee to be confronted with the situation and explain why she was able to deceive her like that. “I was really good to her.”

All this took place in 2022, well before the filming of B&B Full of Love. Kees van der Spek and his team go out with Marian to confront the former employee with her theft and the murder plan. The tension increases as they get closer. The shutters of the house are closed. Kees first explores the area, but he can barely see anything. Then suddenly a hatch opens and someone comes out. A man with a garbage bag. Unfortunately, it’s the wrong one. That was the only movement of the day. But at the end of the day, they got it, it seems.

Then they are forced to use other means. Marian happened to have a black wig in her closet, which she put on so as not to be recognizable. That turned out to be a bull’s eye!

Sleepless nights

Marian hopes that Mariana will have as many sleepless nights as she does. “Phew. I need to unload completely. It may not help me financially, but I do think she should get those sleepless nights too.”
