Joost Klein (26) succeeded in blowing away the audience in Malmö and viewers in Europe on Thursday evening during the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. He has advanced to the final.

The audience in Malmö and at home on the couch was impressed by his energetic performance. Now he can prepare for his performance during the grand finale on Saturday evening.

In the second semi-final, Joost faced eighteen other countries. Three of them were already assured of a place in the final: France, Spain and Italy, due to their status as members of the ‘Big Five’. These countries pay more than other countries and are therefore automatically assured of a spot in the final. This year is the first time that they have performed their songs during the semi-finals.

Of the other sixteen countries, ten countries can advance to the grand final on Saturday. Joost indicated in advance that he had every confidence in his act. And now it turns out that his confidence was justified: with his song ‘Europapa’ he managed to get enough votes from viewers.

Furthermore, Latvia, Austria, Norway, Israel, Greece, Estonia, Switzerland, Georgia and Armenia have also managed to secure a place in the final of next Saturday, May 11.

Last year, Mia and Dion were eliminated after the semi-finals. In 2015, Trijntje Oosterhuis also failed to reach the final, but the Netherlands was present from 2016 to 2022.

The Dutch participants Douwe Bob, OG3NE, Waylon, Duncan Laurence, Jeangu Macrooy (as host country) and S10 captured a place in the grand final. We are back with Joost’s place in the final back on track.

Joost had every confidence in his act beforehand and was completely ready for the semi-finals. Aran Bade spoke to him before his departure to the venue:
