We of course hope that Joost Klein (26) will win the Eurovision Song Contest, but according to Cornald Maas (61) there is a very good chance that Israel will walk away with the win. Despite the fact that many people are against the country’s participation, Cornald thinks that singer Eden Golan (20) can surprise everyone.
“In that sense I think it is an exciting year”
“No one is talking about it, but Israel could do quite well,” he told it ANP. “You cannot vote anti and only vote for a song. And I suspect that there will certainly be a lot of sympathy for this song, perhaps politically.”
The song ‘Hurricane’ is certainly ‘not bad’, Cornald continues. “And neither is the implementation. So it is possible that the juries think: yes, this is worth a top 5. Unless they are guided by political considerations. In that sense, I think it is an exciting year.”
It’s also exciting because the votes of the public and the juries may differ quite a bit this year. “And then it may be that a country that comes second or third can win at both, as was the case with Duncan Laurence,” he says. In that case, in addition to Israel, Italy, Ukraine and France would also be good contenders.
For the time being, the bookmakers are mainly putting their money on Croatia and Switzerland. The final of the Eurovision Song Contest takes place on Saturday evening.
Many people also think Joost Klein’s chances are very high, including Paul Elstak, who contributed to his song:
