Several attacks have been carried out in the Russian region of Tatarstan, about 900 kilometers east of Moscow. Western news agencies say, based on Ukrainian security sources, that the attacks were carried out by Ukraine.

A factory where unmanned Shahed drones are made near the city of Yelaboega is said to have been hit. Russian media do not mention an attack on a drone factory, but do write about at least seven people injured in an attack on a dormitory in an industrial area north of the city of Yelabuga. The Washington Post wrote last year that drones are made there.

Russia’s third largest oil refinery was hit in the city of Nizhnekamsk. According to the Russian state news agency RIA, a fire broke out at the Taneko refinery and was quickly extinguished. Production has not been disrupted, RIA says. The refinery produces approximately 360,000 barrels of oil per day. No one would have been injured.

Ukraine has recently been attacking Russian oil refineries more often with drones. The drones used by the country have increasingly increased range, up to more than 1,000 kilometers, and they can cause more and more damage.

The Financial Times recently wrote that the US is urging Ukraine to stop targeting oil refineries and storage tanks. According to the newspaper, Americans are afraid of rising fuel prices. They also think that Russia will take retaliatory measures, such as closing pipelines that are also important to the West.
