Although the housing market is dramatic, there are sometimes icings in the pie. Because for 10 euros you can become the owner of a small castle in Belgium. You do need a bit of luck to actually sign the deed of sale.

Le Richmond, as the house is called, was owned by former Belgian Prime Minister Paul-Henri Spaak in the 1960s. Today the 900 square meter property is used as a bed and breakfast. And it doesn’t stop at the building alone: the total area of the estate covers 6,700 square meters.

You don’t have to dig deep into your pockets for that. You can simply win the house in Godinne. All you have to do is buy a lottery ticket for 10 euros and answer two questions. Participants are asked to estimate to the nearest cent how much the main house and guest house are worth. Whoever is closest to the actual amount can call themselves the proud owner.

Three months

Interested parties have three months to register. Only then will two experts announce an official amount for both parts. The competition must be fair. Small tip: the website of real estate agent Duchenne (also owner) states that the total value is at least 1.5 million euros.

“I have owned this building for 27 years now. The restoration work took twelve years and I lived there with my family for fifteen years. I had been toying with the idea of selling this property in an original way for a long time. The concrete elaboration still took me a year,” Duchenne explains.

The real estate agent admits that it is not that easy to sell these types of properties. “This is a very specific market, it may take years before a suitable buyer emerges. And then we mainly look internationally, towards the French, English or Dutch sometimes.”

There’s a catch

There is still a catch. If not enough tickets are sold, Duchenne can always decide to stop sales. Participants will then receive their money back or have a chance to win a BMW convertible as a ‘consolation prize’.

Finally, it may also be worthwhile to tell friends about this opportunity. If he or she ultimately wins through your invitation, you will receive a bonus of 200,000 euros.
