Thief who has just been released is stranded with a stolen vehicle due to an empty tank

--

Police in Suriname arrested a man who allegedly stole a white Toyota Wish from a supermarket on Thursday. It concerns 28-year-old Angelo F., who was just released from prison a week ago and is an old acquaintance of the Surinamese police.

The owner of the car stopped his vehicle in front of a supermarket in the Rijsdijk resort on Thursday morning to get some groceries. He left the vehicle with the engine running and entered the store.

Angelo, who saw this happen, then got into the vehicle and took off.

A little later, a patrolling police officer on a motorcycle came across him on the Sir Winston Churchillweg near the Beekhuizen Bridge. According to the officer’s statement, the driver had stopped in such a way that through traffic was completely blocked (photo below).

The driver indicated that the car’s gas tank had become empty and that he could therefore not continue driving. He further stated that the vehicle belonged to a drunk man residing in Para.

However, a passing driver showed the officer a photo on Facebook and pointed out that this was a stolen vehicle.

The officer immediately made contact with the Command Center, which confirmed that the theft of the white Toyota Wish, with all the characteristics mentioned, had been reported that morning at the Rijsdijk station.

This was also the reason to designate the driver, Angelo F., as a suspect and to arrest him.

Angelo and the vehicle were taken to the Livorno station, after which the suspect was transferred to the Rijsdijk station. After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, he was arrested for aggravated theft.

Bureau Rijsdijk is further investigating this case.
