Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi says the Ukrainian army has withdrawn from three villages on the front. Syrskyi warns of pressure from the Russian army across the entire front line.
According to Syrskyi, this is a tactical withdrawal and the troops have fallen back to positions just west of the three villages. Two of the three villages are located near Avdiivka, the city that the Russian army captured in February after a heavy siege.
“The situation at the front has become worse,” Syrskyi wrote on his Telegram channel. According to the commander-in-chief, the number of Russian troops behind the lines is increasing. This could indicate that Russia is preparing an attack on the northern side of the front, towards the city of Kharkiv.
The Russian army has been slowly making territorial gains in recent months. Last week, the Russian army was suddenly able to advance kilometers due to a tactical Ukrainian blunder.
Syrskyi mentions the town of Chasiv Yar as one of the most important points on the front line at the moment. Russia is trying to take that place because of the strategic importance of the town, which is located on a hill.
Russia claims to capture village
It is striking that Syrskyi does not mention the village of Novobakhmutivka. Earlier on Sunday, the Russian army claimed to have captured that village near Avdiivka.
President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday issued a new appeal to Western countries to speed up the delivery of military aid. According to Zelensky, this is necessary so that the Ukrainian army can hold its positions at the front and thwart Russia’s plans.
