Five people were injured in a stabbing incident in northeast London on Tuesday, British police said. They were taken to hospital. Police have arrested a 36-year-old man with a sword.

The man allegedly drove a car into a house in the Hainault suburb. He then allegedly attacked two police officers and several civilians.

The emergency services received reports about the incident just before 7 a.m. It is not yet clear what condition the injured are in.

The suspect’s motive is not yet known. The police are not thinking about terrorism and are not looking for other suspects. The exact location of the attack is also still unclear. A nearby metro station and several roads have been closed for investigation.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan says he is “devastated” by the events. He announced extra patrols to reassure people, writes the BBC.

British Home Secretary James Cleverly has expressed his condolences to those involved. Both Cleverly and Khan call on people not to speculate and not to distribute images of the incident on social media. There is a video going around of a man walking down the street with a sword.
