In the context of the 155th anniversary of the Court of Justice, President Chandrikapersad Santokhi decorated eleven people. These persons have all been nominated by the Court of Justice, taking into account the advice of the Decoration Commission for Surinamese Awards and accepted by the head of state.

Present during this ceremony were the First Lady, Melissa Santokhi-Seenacherry, the President of the National Assembly, Marinus Bee, members of the Council of Ministers, the President of the Court of Justice, Iwan Rasoelbaks, members of the Court of Justice, Advocate General at the Court of Justice, directors and chairman of the Advisory Committee on Surinamese Awards, the decorators and their families. The decoration ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace on Friday, May 3.

From all nominations made by the Court, these are persons who have made an exceptional contribution to the nation, particularly in the field of judiciary and legal administration lawyers and/or are long-serving officials at the Court. Several foreigners, highly respected friends of the judiciary in Suriname, who have made special contributions to the development of the judiciary in Suriname in word and deed over many years, have also been decorated.

They have delivered exceptional performances from a direct or indirect connection with the Court for the benefit of society to protect the independence of the judiciary and uphold the rule of law.

Hans Lim A Po was decorated as Bearer of the Grand Cordon in the Honorary Order of the Palm. Georgine de Miranda, Shardhapersad Gangaram Panday, August Ermelijn and Carlo Jadnanansing were appointed Grand Officer of the Honorary Order of the Palm.

Hugo Kenneth, Fernandes Mendes, Adolf Stefanus Rueb and Willem Lodewijk Valk were appointed Commander in the Honorary Order of the Palm, while Aniel Autar, Jan De Boer and Letitia Thijm were appointed Officer in the Honorary Order of the Palm.

President Santokhi considered it an honorable task, as President of the Republic of Suriname, to appreciate people for their selfless services to society. “People who voluntarily commit themselves to welfare work or association life and generally care about others or are of social significance should be appreciated,” said the head of state.
