Art and the Leie have been a ‘match made in heaven‘ and they also know this at Toerisme Leiestreek. “Our region is known for its picturesque landscapes, creativity and rich artistic dynamics that have set the tone for more than a century, in other words it is a distinctive asset of the region. With our new tourist offer, we want to encourage not only art lovers but also a wide audience for an inspiring and creative holiday,” says chairman Claude Croes of Toerisme Leiestreek.

Paint&Sip

That audience will have a particularly wide choice of activities to actively enjoy that region in the coming months between Latem and Kortrijk. For example, there are the Paint&Sip workshops in collaboration with the Ghent Pigment. “During about ten workshops, participants can create their own masterpiece in idyllic or special locations. Together with the works, these are linked to artists from the Leie region such as Emile Claus or Valerius De Saedeleer and their sources of inspiration. In between painting, participants enjoy regional drinks and a relaxed atmosphere,” says Simon Verhamme of Pigment.

The workshops take place on different dates between June and September, at a friendly price of 15 euros.

The 16th edition of Kunstzomer Leiestreek will present an extensive and free program from August 31 to September 29, spread across 17 cities and municipalities. Visitors can discover the work of more than 60 artists in unique locations, ranging from historic buildings and industrial heritage to a wine estate and summer bar.

There are also several prestigious exhibitions, a biennial and a triennial on the agenda in museums such as the mudel in Deinze and Dhondt-Dhaenens in Latem.

Art&Dinner

All that art makes the stomach growl and there too a sleeve is adjusted with ‘Art&Dinner‘. “Guests can enjoy a gastronomic experience among the works of art in a museum or art studio. They are organized in collaboration with the mudel, Atelier Roger Raveel in Machelen-aan-de-Leie and Atelier José Vermeersch in Lendelede between the end of September and March 2025,” says regional manager Katrien Six.
