Oldambt – This year, the local news website OldambtNu.nl brought an Easter surprise to the municipality with the introduction of eight hidden golden eggs. The hunt, guided by clues on the website, resulted in a treasure hunt that came to an end when the eggs were discovered. A few minutes after distributing the hints, the first adventurers set out on a quest.
Each egg, strategically hidden in various locations throughout the municipality, promised a prize for the lucky finders. The search led to some of the most picturesque places in the region:
1: Rosarium Winschoten (Leonie, 9 years)
At this location the different species are divided over many compartments. Including a number with a Royal distinction. Even Napoleon’s wife is mentioned in the origins, having served as a source of inspiration. Trade & Industry once worked to get this location off the ground. And after many years this is still one of the most visited showrooms in the municipality.

2: Wilgenborg Blauwestad (Ylsa, 10 years)
This location is somewhere between France and Scandinavia, but we don’t leave the municipality. A good example of projects set up by Dorpsbelangen. Whether it is a sporting, cultural or botanical event, a lot takes place here and many know where to find it. The construction of this location uses a technique to raise buildings through a good interplay of connections and growth.

3: Tunnel Sterrebos Winschoten (Fayenne, 7 years)
This location was built with reused red-brown bricks. It has a double roller layer and decorative wall anchors. A very gradually rising staircase along the wall. Some people think the design looks somewhat medieval, but this national monument is not that old. Renovated several times in the meantime, but it has always served the public interest. It is a typological rarity in the province of Groningen and people like to walk through it.

4: Statue Count Adolf Heiligerlee (John, 32 years old)
In the Winschoten area you will find beautiful heights in the landscape. These natural ramparts have their origins in the Ice Age. But many years later, something else remarkable took place at this location. This has not only had consequences for our municipality, but far beyond. This is the glory of Groningen, the combination of nature and culture.

5: Grain Republic Bad Nieuweschans (Amaya, 24 years old)
Our municipality currently has 3 train stations, all of which no longer serve this means of transport. These types of monumental buildings often take on a different function after renovation. This also applies to this location in our municipality. Although they ensure that the current experience is certainly in close contact with our Groningen agricultural history and the old crafts. With a trendy workshop as a counterpart.

6: Ennemaborgh Midwolda (Michiel, 14 years & Julia, 16 years)
This location has a very rich history with many names that are now also linked to street names. But there are also many species of flora and fauna. Nature and heritage come together here in a spectacular way. In the 1960s this location was severely neglected, but has now been restored to good condition, which attracts many visitors every year.

7: Waaiboei Nieuw Statenzijl (Anouck, 13 years & Vera, 9 years)
This location can be seen from afar. Although… if De Frijsteat Folgeren has been in the area, you may miss it. Since 1996 it has been a frequently visited place to enjoy nature or a cup of coffee. People come from all over the world, including our neighboring country Germany.

8: Red lookout tower Reiderwolde (Luan, 6 years & Sem, 11 years)
A place with a beautiful view of the surroundings. After a walk or bike ride, there are plenty of benches and other options to rest. Did you know that there are also fruit trees here that you can pick from?
