Significantly more new campers and caravans have been sold

A large number of new caravans and campers were sold in the first quarter of this year. This and more is evident from figures released by the Camping and Caravan Industry trade association (KCI).

In the first three months of this year, 6.2 percent more new campers were registered in the Netherlands than in the first quarter of 2023. The caravan market also picked up strongly in that period, even more so than that of campers. In the first quarter of this year, 11.5 percent more new caravans were registered than in the same period last year. This concerns 1,681 copies. The Netherlands is and remains a caravan country.

On April 1, there were no fewer than 615,981 caravans and campers in the Netherlands, over 11,000 more than on the same date last year. The caravan and camper park grew by just under two percent in one year. Although many new caravans were added in the first quarter, the caravan population decreased by 300 units last year to 422,846 units. The camper fleet grew by 6.3 percent to 193,135 campers. It is therefore very likely that we will welcome the 200,000 campers in the Netherlands tomorrow this year.

KCI chairman Leo Diepemaat: “This year we will have the 200,000th camper in the Netherlands and that means roughly a doubling compared to ten years ago. Especially since corona, the popularity of camping has accelerated. This is also reflected in the total figures for caravans; previously these numbers decreased at approximately the same rate as the camper population increased. But in recent years this decline has virtually come to a standstill and own caravans are proving to be very popular again. The industry has also been able to cope with the supply problems and this means there is plenty of choice for the consumer again.”
