KLM flight attendants can exchange pumps under uniform for sneakers | Economy

--

From May 6, KLM staff may also wear sneakers under their uniforms. According to the airline, the fact that flight attendants and pilots can choose more comfortable shoes is in keeping with the current times. They can get shoes from KLM or wear their own sneakers.

KLM conducted a trial with sneakers last year because there was a demand for more comfortable work shoes. “We noticed that being able to wear them contributes to employee well-being,” says a spokesperson.

Sneakers are also increasingly worn by other airlines, KLM says. “And it suits the times.”

Senior purser Willeke van den Boomgaard tested the KLM sneaker last year. “After years of the classic look of pumps, I now enjoy wearing the sneaker.”

KLM sneaker not for under skirt

KLM had two types of sneakers designed: a blue one with white soles, and a black version for pilots. But staff are also allowed to wear their own sneakers, if they meet certain conditions.

Sneakers under a skirt remain out of the question. If staff wear a uniform with a skirt, pumps must be worn underneath.
