Eleven old Johnny Cash recordings have been completed and will be included on a new album. The 1993 demos were completed with the help of various musicians.

The album will be released on June 28 and will be titled Songwriterreports The Guardian Tuesday. The first number, Well Alright, was released on Tuesday. The album features guest appearances from country singer Vince Gill, guitarist Marty Stuart and drummer Pete Abbott. Cash’s voice has been added.

Several artists previously collaborated with Cash. “They knew his energy and his movements, and they let him guide them,” said John Carter Cash, the son of the country singer who died in 2003. “For them it was like playing with Johnny again.”

Cash wrote the songs over an extended period of time, when he didn’t have a recording contract. Eventually other projects came his way and nothing more was done with the demos. In the songs he sings about, among other things, his drug addiction and the love for his wife June.
