The popular torrent site Rarbg is shutting down. According to the founder, this is because the team has endured two tough years, including due to corona and the war in Ukraine. The site went offline immediately.
The team announces the closure in a message where the torrent site used to be, writes TorrentFreak, among others. Several reasons are cited for the decision. For example, several team members are still suffering from a corona infection that prevents them from working. Some have died as a result of the disease.
Another cause is the war in Ukraine, it says, because some Rarbg members are fighting in it. Moreover, due to rising power prices for data centers and inflation, it is no longer possible to fund the site, the team says. Due to all these factors, it was ‘unanimously’ decided that keeping the site in operation is no longer feasible.
Rarbg existed for fifteen years and has become one of the most visited torrent sites in that time, according to Torrentfreak. In the Netherlands, Rarbg has been blocked by most internet providers since last year. Many ISPs have also blocked the site in the UK, Italy and Finland, among others.
