As of June 1, the Zeeland Landscape Management Foundation (SLZ) has a new director in the person of Petra Smits. She succeeds Joan van der Velden, who has been director since March 1, 2017 and is close to retirement.
Smits reports that he is very much looking forward to starting work as the new director on June 1. ‘Stichting Landschapsbeheer Zeeland has been an important independent organization in Zeeland for 42 years, which takes care of our cultural landscape and society. I know the organization as a driven and expert team of employees, volunteers and management, who, together with other organizations, ensure the actual implementation of very diverse projects. Projects where the shovel goes into the ground, for example in the design of a regional property and the construction, management and maintenance of the route network. The range of tasks is large and broad.’
Climate Adaptation Coordinator
Smits comes from Middelburg and studied Geography in Utrecht. She has been working for the province of Zeeland since 2005 as Climate Adaptation and Multi-Layer Safety coordinator and as Environmental Act Implementation coordinator. She previously worked as a Nature and Landscape coordinator. She was also involved interprovincially in supervising the Evaluation of the Nature Pact, with a special focus on better connecting nature and landscape with society and the economy.
