Almost the entire city council wants Amsterdam high school students to be able to visit the newly opened National Holocaust Museum for free. All parties, except Forum for Democracy, signed the motion. The parties want the municipality to collaborate with various parties to finance the free tickets if necessary.

According to the parties, the National Holocaust Museum can ‘fulfil an important educational role’ in understanding the Holocaust. “The Holocaust is a crucial chapter in the history of Amsterdam,
The Netherlands and humanity.” Reasons for making admission free for students are that the number of anti-Semitic incidents is growing worldwide and awareness of the war is declining.

But in order to provide this awareness and knowledge to the youth, ‘financial obstacles’ should not become a problem for not visiting the museum. The twelve parties therefore call on the city council to make the tickets free for secondary school students by entering into a partnership with the museum or other ‘relevant authorities’.
