TERNEUZEN – While the tightness on the Zeeland labor market is cooling down somewhat, the number of vacancies for technical professions remains high. The Province of Zeeland has therefore joined forces and is starting a campaign together with Talent Service Zeeland and six Zeeland companies. The aim of the campaign called ‘Break Out’ is to entice technicians from home and abroad to come to Zeeland. The campaign was launched at Dow in Terneuzen on Thursday, March 28.

A large part of the national shortage on the labor market stems from the industrial sector. Almost half of the workers in Dutch industry work in a technical field profession . Industry is an important sector in Zeeland and many industrial companies in the region are also affected by the staff shortage. In the Netherlands, there were 33,850 vacancies in industry in the third quarter of 2023, of which 1,050 were in Zeeland. At the same time, the number of people with a technical profession is increasing nationally. Between 2011 and 2021, the number of jobs in the technical sectors increased from 1.3 to 1.5 million, an increase of 15 percent. And in 2023, the number of jobs will have increased again by 1,000 compared to 2022. As a result, competition between companies is increasing.

Zeeland companies collaborate on ‘Break Out’

To tackle this shortage across Zeeland, companies from the region are working together. With a joint campaign called ‘Break Out’, Zeeland is promoted as an interesting region to work and live in and technicians are enticed to show their interest through Talent Service Zeeland. Talent Service Zeeland brings the technicians in after a while inventory in contact with employers and helps and guides interested candidates with their questions about working and living in Zeeland. This saves money and increases the chance of success. “The tightness on the Zeeland labor market will not diminish anytime soon, so joining forces is more important than ever,” says Jim Goedhart of the foundation behind Talent Service Zeeland. “Our working method not only reduces costs, but also ensures that a candidate, if on closer inspection he or she is less suitable for a particular employer, is not lost to Zeeland: this interested party may be a very good fit for another Zeeland organization. .” The campaign is a collaboration between the Province of Zeeland, Talent Service Zeeland and companies Cargill, Dow, EPZ, Indaver, Ørsted and Damen Naval.
