Living and roads

The government is allocating extra money for new homes, roads and training technical talent. ‘That extra money is desperately needed. In the coming years, 20,000 additional homes must be built in the region, on top of the 45,000 that had previously been agreed. Additional resources are also needed to improve local infrastructure – for example around the station area and the ring road in Eindhoven.

National approach to top technical talent

The semiconductor industry expects to need twice as many people in 2030 compared to the current workforce of 42,500. To achieve this, it is extremely important that we remain attractive to top technical talent and train the technicians of the future ourselves. That is why it is good that the government is making money available for additional investments in technical education and is focusing on a national approach to training semi-contalented people – from intermediate vocational education, higher professional education to university.

Deployment of the National Growth Fund

The cabinet has chosen to use money from the National Growth Fund for additional investments in the Brainport region. ‘The plan fits in with the objectives of the growth fund for projects that strengthen the structural earning capacity of our country. However, we should not make a habit of using the fund in this way and it is important that the approximately 6 billion that is still available remains in the fund.’
