ZEELAND – The forecast for Easter still has a lot of uncertainty in the temperature forecast. But there is a greater chance that above-average temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees will be recorded. The weather picture seems quite certain with a mix of sun, clouds and some showers, according to meteorologist Rico Schröder of Weeronline.

On Good Friday there will be a lot of cloud cover and a chance of rain. The temperature rises to values between 12 and 15 degrees, making it milder than usual at the end of March. Normally it is 10 to 12 degrees in the last week of March.

Changeable Easter weather

The (temperature) forecast for the Easter weekend is quite uncertain. “The limit of very soft and a lot cooler air is in our area. In the soft air the mercury can rise towards 20 degrees. This is especially likely to happen in the East of the Netherlands. In the cooler air it will only be about 13 degrees. The weather consists of clouds, occasional sun and a daily chance of rain,” says Schröder.

This year there is a good chance of temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees

During the dry moments the weather is great for a walk or bike ride. The weather is also good to work in the garden, because the temperatures are high for this time of year. On average it is 10 to 12 degrees at the end of March and the beginning of April. “The chance that it will be 15 degrees or more in the center of the country this Easter weekend is about 70%. The chance of temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees this year is about 20%. Since 1901, maximum temperatures of 10-15 degrees have occurred on 46% of Easter days. The chance of a warm day, with a maximum temperature in De Bilt of 20 degrees or more, is at most 10%. In the (south)east the chance of this is slightly higher at 25%.”

Weather at Easter varies greatly
The weather at Easter can vary greatly from year to year. “This is not only because the date of Easter varies greatly, but also because the weather in spring is always erratic. The last throes of winter and the early hints of summer weather can quickly alternate in spring. The difference between the warmest Easter and the coldest Easter is big. In 2011, the average maximum temperature in De Bilt was almost 25 degrees. During Easter 1964 the average temperature was only 4.2 degrees.”
