The school no longer considers organizing festivities appropriate. That is why there will be no drinks on results day, no final party and no ‘festive plenary graduation ceremony’. The school is still considering another suitable way to award the diplomas, reports Rector Hubert Roza.

It is not yet known how many individual sanctions will be imposed and what they exactly entail. The school does report that all students can take their final exams this year.

A student who lit a torch in the school was fined, a police spokesperson said. The police could not say how much the fine is.

‘Enormous devastation’

The school measures were announced to all exam students at school on Tuesday. In an email to students, parents and educators, Rector Roza writes that ‘enormous devastation’ was left behind by the exam stunt.

‘Items have been destroyed, fireworks have been thrown, toilets have exploded, ceilings have been smashed, cooking oil has been poured over the stairs, graffiti has been applied, a torch has been lit, panic has been caused, young students have been frightened, there has been cheering, clapping, the police booed, a lot of drinking.’ According to the headmaster, dozens of students also went to other schools ‘to riot there’.

According to the rector, employees, who were verbally abused and threatened, were still very upset on Tuesday. According to him, a large number of them are unable to work with a group. That is why the exam training was canceled earlier.

The cleaning of the school has not yet been completed after four days. ‘Many walls will also have to be repainted.’ The rector emphasizes that it was not just a small group of guilty parties who caused ‘the misery’. The school cannot check who has distanced themselves, so the festivities have been canceled for everyone.
