MIDDELBURG – On May 5, 2024, Middelburg Book City will be organized again: the largest and nicest book market in the southwest of the Netherlands. It is already the 24th edition.

On that day, booksellers from all over the country come to the Zeeland capital to sell their books. Some Belgian exhibitors will also fill a stall. Once again this year, the exhibitors include a number of specialized antiquarian bookstores, with a specialty as the main range, but in most stalls the range on offer is general, which means that a multitude of genres is represented, from literature to record books and from Zeeland books to poetry, while comics and a stall full of thrillers are also included. De Drukkerij bookstore also offers many bargains and varied leftovers in four stalls. Some smaller publishers will also be present with a stand. In addition, traditionally, a number of private individuals also fill a stall with often unexpected and therefore always surprising offerings. At the request of both visitors and vendors, there is room for CDs, DVDs and vinyl again this year.

From all over the Netherlands

All in all, the Market is packed, neatly presented and almost always attractively priced. An opportunity not to be missed for avid readers and passionate collectors, enthusiasts or those looking for something specific. The music during Middelburg Boekenstad is provided by our own occasional formation, the Booktown Jazzband. Middelburg Book City has been one of the major book markets in the Netherlands for years, meaning Middelburg has a say in bookland. This also means that audiences from all over the Netherlands come to Middelburg for a day of searching for books. The event started in 1999 on a very modest scale. Growth quickly occurred and by adequately responding to questions from exhibitors and the public, Middelburg Boekenstad quickly became a permanent and recognizable element in the Middelburg events program. The book market is linked to the Middelburg Art and Culture Route.
