Unveiling of art installation by Zahar Bondar

Vleeshal Middelburg cordially invites you to the festive opening of Zahar Bondar’s permanent art installation in the Pennywafelhuis on Thursday, May 30 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This committee is part of the project Oemoemenoe, the local nomadic program of Vleeshal. From November 2023 to April 2024, Bondar made various tiles during workshops together with visitors to the Pennywafelhuis.

For this co-creation project called Oemoemenoe #1: If You Do It Well, I Will Do It Better Bondar was inspired by a monumental tiled wall he saw in Andalusia. On this wall the same motif is used for each row, but each in a different style and made by different people. In this way, the wall beautifully materializes the diversity of backgrounds that a culture contains.

Just like the wall, the Pennywafel House brings together a melting pot of cultures. The Pennywafelhuis is an accessible social-artistic project in a flat in the Dauwendaele district, where people with different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds live. Various activities take place in the studios, the garden, the kitchen and the market hall where second-hand items are available.

If You Do It Well, I Will Do It Better

In the project If You Do It Well, I Will Do It Better the kitchen is central, as a space of care. The tiles created during the project will be attached to the wall in the kitchen of the Pennywaffle House, where they will form a permanent art installation. On May 30, you are welcome to attend the opening of the art installation and celebrate with us. During the opening there will be a performance by artist Zahar Bondar and you can eat a cup of soup with us. We would like to ask you to register for the opening by sending an email to [email protected]so that we can take the amount of soup into account.
