Company will make natural alternative to plastic in Emmen: 40 new jobs

The company Pacques Biomaterials is going to make a natural alternative to plastic in Emmen. The arrival of the company will create about forty jobs.

Pacques Biomaterials establishes itself on the GETEC PARK.EMMEN site. There it will build an installation to make a biodegradable biopolymer. This will first be done with a smaller demo installation that should be ready next year. After that, the company will build a commercial factory, which can be used in 2026. The total investment is expected to be around 58 million euros.

The company says it makes an alternative to the use of regular plastics that are non-degradable and oil-based. “Pacques Biomaterials offers a fully circular solution for the future,” says the company. It uses natural bacteria and processes to make those polymers. The biomaterial is produced from waste.

Pacques Biomaterials still works from Balk. “We choose Emmen because everything comes together here”, manager Joost Pâques refers to the green chemistry already present. “Everything is here and every time we visit Emmen, we get even more enthusiastic.” The municipality of Emmen, the province of Drenthe and GETEC PARK.EMMEN are also happy with the arrival of the company.
