The suspended match in the Kitchen Champion Division between NAC Breda and Willem II will in principle be played at a later time, as much as possible under the same conditions as Friday evening. However, the KNVB professional football league board can also decide that the current score (0-1) will also be the final score or that the match must be replayed in its entirety.

“The tightened measures are there to increase the safety of the players and referees on the field,” said a spokesman for the KNVB. Referee Jeroen Manschot followed the tightened measures of the KNVB in the Rat Verlegh stadium. The association determined last week, after the events at Feyenoord – Ajax, that a match will be stopped immediately if something is thrown on the field. If this happens again after that, the game will be permanently stopped.

In Breda, this tightened rule led to a strike for the first time. That happened fifteen minutes before the end, after Elton Kabangu had made the 0-1 for Willem II. NAC supporters threw cups of beer at the players, after fireworks had already landed on the field.

“If there is a question of guilt, the club in question can be punished disciplinary law,” said the KNVB. ,,In no case does a team or club benefit from the permanent abandonment of a match. On the contrary, but the safety of the people on the field is paramount.”

Supporters of Willem II were not welcome in Breda for safety reasons, just as fans of NAC were not allowed to come to Tilburg earlier this season.
