Russia targeted power plants in three Ukrainian provinces on Saturday morning. According to Ukrainian energy minister German Galushchenko, one person was injured. The power stations are damaged, but still working.
Galushchenko reports on Telegram that the Russians carried out attacks in the Dnipro, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. The last two are located in western Ukraine, relatively far from the front line.
According to Dnipro Governor Serhiy Lysak, the attacks have cut off Kryvyi Rih’s water supply. That is the hometown of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Ukraine’s largest energy company, DTEK, reports that at least four of its power stations have been hit. The company speaks of “serious damage” that must be repaired quickly.
DTEK reports that there have been deaths among the personnel at the power stations. This has not yet been confirmed by the Ukrainian government or armed forces.
Since the end of March, Russia has increasingly bombarded Ukrainian power stations where electricity is generated with heat and hydropower. As a result, Ukraine is forced to sometimes switch off electricity in some provinces to spare the power grid.
