This afternoon and evening the weather can be quite wild in the south and center of the country. The KNMI warns that heavy thunderstorms are coming, which may be accompanied by gusts of wind, hail and a lot of rain.
The weather institute has issued code yellow for six provinces.
Large hailstones
Traffic and outdoor activities may be affected and there may also be local flooding. The wind gusts can have a speed of up to 65 kilometers per hour, the hailstones can have a diameter of 2 centimeters and locally between 20 and 40 millimeters of rain can fall in an hour. Later in the evening the number of showers decreases and becomes less heavy.
So enjoy the beautiful weather this morning and early in the afternoon, says Amara Onwuka of Buienradar in the RTL Breakfast News. “In many places it gets hot in the summer, with perhaps even local temperatures of up to 26 degrees. But the warm air makes the atmosphere very explosive. Thunderstorms are coming our way from Belgium.”
According to Onwuka, these ‘can be really spicy specimens’. Initially, code yellow applied to the provinces of Limburg, North Brabant, Utrecht and Gelderland, but this has now been scaled up to include Zeeland and South Holland, where it can get particularly noisy in the evening.
“For the rest, code yellow applies from about four o’clock this afternoon until 1 o’clock at night,” says Onwuka. “You then have to take into account local showers that are really heavy with hail and in any case thunderstorms, gusts of wind and a lot of rain in a short time. There are big differences, regionally it can be completely crazy, but there are also places where it will not be so bad. “

According to Onwuka, the weather will certainly change in the coming days, summer is gone again for a while. It will be a lot more changeable, temperatures will drop to values that are quite average for this time of year. Tomorrow it will be downright chilly with around 14 degrees, it will be cloudy and there will be showers. In the afternoon it becomes a bit drier and the sun can sometimes be seen.
The weekend will also be changeable, with a mix of sun and cloud. The temperature will rise slightly to about 16 to 17 degrees.
