Volleyball player Laura Dijkema exchanges her Italian club Vallefoglia for an adventure in the United States. The Dutch international will play there in a new competition to be formed.
The 34-year-old Dijkema signed a two-year contract with League One Volleyball, in which six clubs will initially play. It is not yet known at which club Dijkema will be based.
“It makes me a little sad, because Italy had become my second home,” says Dijkema Along the Line and Surrounding Areas. “But I’m really looking forward to experiencing American sports culture.”
Champion in four countries
Dijkema made his debut in the Premier League in 2006 at the age of 16 with DOK from Dwingeloo. It was the start of a rich career with many prizes that took her to Germany, Italy, Turkey and Russia.
Dijkema also hopes to become national champion in the US. This has already been achieved in the Netherlands with Martinus/TVC Amstelveen (3x), in Germany with Dresdner SC (2x), in Italy with Igor Gorgonzola Novara (1x) and in Russia with Lokomotiv Kaliningrad (1x).
