The crash took place in the peloton. It happened just under forty kilometers from the finish, in the run-up to the penultimate climb of the day. The crash itself was not visible, but it was clear that several riders were involved.

Roglic looked battered and pointed to his hip. Still, he got up again after a while. Two teammates, Emanuel Buchmann and Matteo Sobrero, were waiting for him and tried to bring him back to the peloton, but the yellow jersey wearer was already more than two minutes behind 36 kilometers from the finish.

Update (4:49 p.m.)

Roglic has now returned to the peloton. On the climb to Lizarrusti (6.4 km at 4.7%), the last climb of the day, he was able to reconnect. The peloton rode with some brakes in the previous phase to give the classification leader the opportunity to return.
