Tobias Lund Andresen also won the penultimate stage of the Tour of Turkey on Saturday. The Dane from Team dsm-firmenich PostNL was the fastest in a bunch sprint. Teammate Frank van den Broek retains the lead in the general classification.

In the rolling 125 kilometer ride from Cesme to Izmir, the Eritrean Natnael Berhane (Beykoz Belediyesi Spor Türkiye) and the Australian James Whelan (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) were in the lead for a long time. The pair were caught by the peloton 10 kilometers from the finish.

As expected, the stage ended in a bunch sprint, which was won by Andresen. It is the Dane’s third stage victory in the Tour of Turkey, after he also won the fourth and fifth stages. Timothy Dupont (second) and Manuel Peñalver (third) also finished on the podium.

For Team dsm-firmenich PostNL it is the fifth stage victory in the Tour of Turkey. Fabio Jakobsen won the first stage on behalf of the team and Van den Broek the sixth.

The latter took the lead on Friday thanks to a victory in the queen stage and retained his leading position on Saturday without too many problems. This means that final victory beckons for the former computer science student. The Dutchman has a lead of four seconds over Merhawi Kudus and nine seconds ahead of the British Paul Double.

The Tour of Turkey has its denouement on Sunday. The riders then face a 110 kilometer ride to and from Istanbul.
