Frank van den Broek was the first Dutchman to win the Tour of Turkey. The Dutchman from DSM-firmenich PostNL no longer has to stress in the eighth and final stage to and from Istanbul, as the stage has been neutralized due to bad weather conditions.

Due to the slippery weather conditions, the organization cannot guarantee the safety of the riders, so it has been decided to neutralize the ride. The eighth and final stage was only 105.4 kilometers long. A final royal bunch sprint in the streets of Istanbul seemed to be on the horizon, but this will not happen.

Instead, the peloton only rides one lap (and not five) of the local circuit. The wearers of the various jerseys drive – at the head of the peloton – neutralized behind the jury car to the finish. We will no longer see a battle for the rankings and that is good news for Frank van den Broek.

The 23-year-old driver can already call himself the overall winner of the 59th Tour of Turkey. Van den Broek seized power last Friday: in the queen stage to Manisa, the neo-pro hit a double. In the final rankings he is ahead of the Eritrean Merhawi Kudus and the British Paul Double.

Very successful week for DSM-firmenich PostNL
It is the icing on the cake for his team DSM-Firmenich PostNL, after a particularly successful week on Turkish soil. The Dutch formation also managed to dominate the sprint stages, with Fabio Jakobsen (one victory) and especially Tobias Lund Andresen (three stage victories). The latter also takes home the points jersey.
