Simon Cziommer has tried to convince Ajax in the past of Oliver Glasner’s coaching qualities. Glasner has been active at Crystal Palace since February and Cziommer regrets that he never worked at Ajax.

Glasner’s Crystal Palace is currently in good shape. The last four games yielded ten points: Crystal Palace won against Liverpool (0-1), West Ham United (5-2) and Newcastle United (2-0).

“It’s a shame he never became Ajax’s coach,” Cziommer said on Viaplay on Sunday afternoon. “I tried to get him in there. They also eventually brought in the players to play his 5-3-2 system, with Sosa and Gaaei.” He does not specify who Cziommer contacted. “That is not important, because he is no longer with Ajax.”

The 49-year-old Glasner played his entire career as a player at SV Ried in Austria, partly simultaneously with Cziommer (Red Bull Salzburg). After his active career, Glasner became trainer of SV Ried, LASK, VfL Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and now Crystal Palace. His biggest success was winning the Europa League with Frankfurt in 2022.
