Next Saturday at 2:30 PM, Feyenoord Under 21 had to face their peers from FC Volendam in the cup final, but this match has been postponed to a date to be determined. The fact that the match has been postponed has to do with fear among the Municipality of Edam-Volendam.

“Because safety surrounding the match may not be guaranteed, the Municipality of Edam-Volendam has decided that a new playing date must be sought,” can be read in a statement on the FC Volendam website. This all has to do with the fact that the main force of the Volendam team will face Ajax one day later. “The coincidence of the match on Saturday against Feyenoord and on Sunday against Ajax is expected to cause possible safety problems. A suitable new date is therefore being considered in consultation with the KNVB, Feyenoord and the Municipality of Edam-Volendam.”

The next match for Melvin Boel’s team is scheduled for Saturday, May 11. The Rotterdam team will then take on title rival De Graafschap O21. To reach the cup final, Feyenoord previously had to beat PEC Zwolle (5-0), FC Twente/Heracles (3-3, win after penalties), IJsselmeervogels (2-3), Roda JC (2-1) and NAC Breda (2 -1) beat.

This cup final must save the season for the team from Volendam. In 2022/2023, the Volendam team still played in the Second Division, but last autumn competition the team was also relegated directly from the highest O21 division. FC Volendam is currently in fourth place in Division 2-A. To reach the final, Spartaan’20 (6-0), ADO Den Haag (0-0, win after penalties), Telstar (1-1, win after penalties) and Excelsior Rotterdam (3-2) were defeated.
