Ajax will add Elgyn Hato, the younger brother of the first team player, to the youth academy next summer. The thirteen-year-old midfielder comes – just like his older brother did six years ago – from Sparta Rotterdam, it is reported Ajax Showtime.
In March of this year it became clear that Ajax would also like to sign the younger Hato. His older brother was the opposite at the time The Telegraph expresses that he does not want to interfere with the choice: “I didn’t give him any advice. The choice is his. He has to decide for himself where he would like to go, where he would like to play,” Jorrel Hato told the morning newspaper.

Elgyn has now made the choice to actually exchange Sparta for Ajax next summer. The midfielder will according to Showtime will ‘most likely’ join the Under 14s. Hato is not the only player who will make the switch from the Rotterdam club to De Toekomst next summer: last week it became clear that Marouane Bentaleb and Ghalil Bousnane will play in Ajax Under 16 next season .
Jorrel Hato himself switched from Sparta to Ajax in 2018, and made his debut in January 2023, in the cup match at FC Den Bosch (0-2) under then coach Alfred Schreuder in the main squad. He has now played sixty games for Ajax 1 and was even regularly captain of the team from Amsterdam this season.
