Joselu experienced the evening of his dreams on Wednesday. Two years after he attended Real Madrid’s Champions League final as a fan, he guided his favorite club to the final with two goals against Bayern Munich.

With ten minutes to go and a 0-1 deficit, Joselu came on to play against Bayern. The Spaniard’s goals in the 88th and 91st minutes turned the match around completely. “Even in my best dreams this would not have happened,” he said afterwards.

Joselu’s story reads like a football fairy tale. He played for Real Madrid at the beginning of his career, but was not considered good enough at the time. Despite that harsh message, his love for ‘The Royal’ remained as great as ever.

In 2022, he was with his father as a fan at the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool. At that time he played for Deportivo Alavés. Joselu has now been hired from Espanyol by his favorite club with an option to buy.

‘The first was especially important’

“I just want to enjoy the moment,” Joselu said, beaming in front of the UEFA cameras. “It all happened very quickly. For me it was especially important to score the first one, we really needed it. The second one really turned the game around.”

“Two years ago I was still there as a fan and look where we are now,” the 34-year-old striker continued. “I don’t know when I last scored two goals so quickly, but I am happy. We will play the final in three weeks, so we can look forward to that now.”

In the final, Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund on June 1, which defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals on Tuesday. The final battle will take place at Wembley.
